Who among us doesn’t want to change a few things? (Or be a little more graceful about change that seems to have been thrust upon us.)
Is it so unreasonable to want to change your life, your self? No! This is a perfectly normal, we could almost say ubiquitous, human ambition and experience.
The issue is, that so few of us seem able to effectively make the kinds of changes we desire, or retain the ‘poise that most becomes us’, as we try to get through changes we don’t seem to control.
There are a million methods out there, some free and some not, that promise change. How often have we been burned? Usually the only thing that changes is the location of certain funds.
I am graduating from The Consciousness Mentoring Institute this Fall, and to celebrate this capstone on many years of research and training, I am offering my services as a Change Coach for free, for the period of one year.
What services, exactly?
Services Offered
Teaching – I am delighted to offer the condensed nectar of what I have learned in a presentation, seminar or interactive workshop, anywhere in the world. [This can be a half-day workshop, a three-day weekend, or a 45 minute lecture.] There is no charge except travel and accommodation.
Change Coach – It is my pleasure to offer to engage, free of charge, anyone interested in initiating, or better negotiating, certain changes in their world, in themselves, and ultimately in their consciousness. This engagement can be face-to-face, or via telephone or Skype. Email me for more information.
For a few weeks now I have been itching to write about this topic. Kris is very fond of pointing out that we cannot walk on water. [I think it’s the double kick, one against the Church and the other against New Age metaphysics.] And he is just as keen to point out what we CAN do, like change our Mood, and thus our Consciousness, and thus the World.
So I wanted to start making a few notes about what we can and cannot do…
CAN DO
We can expand our awareness, understanding and compassionate acceptance to express more fully our potentials within consciousness.
We can change our perspectives, and our moods, and thereby change our expressed aspects, associations, influences, beliefs, etc. Kris has provided many, many tools for understanding and practice with these innate capacities for moving our focus and concentration within consciousness.
We can change our consciousness – chanting is a process to change our consciousness
We can also, certainly, limit ourselves in innumerable ways… [mostly based on ignorance, which can be fixed, but some on stupidity which can be harder]
CAN’T DO
We can’t walk on water, or through the wall, or through the stone coffee table…
We can’t stop ourselves from growing up, aging and dying in the physical body…
We can’t change other people, our present circumstances, or even ourselves in any kind of sweeping, ‘one fell swoop’ way. Our personal creative domain is fairly constricted by being human, in truth, but we have chosen this for the unique possibilities of real growth in our essential understanding of what matters most to us… so no sympathy is required… in fact congrats my well be in order…
Some of the best art is constructed by ‘mad’ artists using garden tools, toothbrushes, spray hoses, whatever… Think of Japanese sumi-e painting… fat bamboo brush and flat black ink tablet, and water, smeared on silk in flashing strokes… Crude physical tools are used by amazing fellow artists to create veritable and entire universes!
Okay, but basically we can’t do ‘magic’ or parlor tricks as Elias call them… We can’t cause a golden bowl of apples to appear in our left hand as we raise it, fingers spread…
We also, though, cannot stop our true, source selves from endlessly attempting to express themselves, as best we allow them, into our every-day lives in this dimension.
The Gray Area
Let me just say for a moment that the following fairly radical idea takes nothing away from the astonishing empowerment of realizing all the amazing and consequential things we CAN do as itemized above.
At first glance it looks like a pretty stark contrast between what we can and can’t do. However there is a gray area. Kris has always made fun of our thinking we can win the lottery, grow a foot overnight, or walk on water.
But he has also always insisted that when we change our inner representations, the outer world around us has no choice but to confirm and reflect that to us.
This suggests to me that… never mind blueprints and agreements and all the subtle and not-so-subtle limits the new metaphysics places on our divine freedom to choose… This suggests that if we can imagine and create a compliant new way to allow something to happen that might not have happened before… then that’s fair game in any system!
No matter what the ‘laws’ or agreed-upon constraints in any dimension, we can use our divine ability to imagine something new ‘out of thin air’ and then figure out a way to allow it to happen. Abiding by all the rules, albeit creatively in some instances, and meanwhile allowing us to experience precisely what we want! [or need...]
There’s more than one way to skin a cat, as the [fairly creepy old] saying goes.
How Being Graceful Changes Things – November 8, 2009
I want to add to an earlier piece about how getting into a transcendent state of consciousness – entering a state of grace – changes our experience of things here in the mundane world.
‘Mundane’ may not be the best word for our ordinary, everyday state of consciousness because I don’t mean to devalue it in any way. Let’s call it the Focus State. It’s not an accident that we are having these experiences in the physical world as a focal personality. Source doesn’t make mistakes, and we don’t make mistakes, and however humbling this may be for us, we are not going to go down in history as the very first mistake that All That Is made!
This means that what we are experiencing here is a choice of our whole selves, and beyond that ATI, and it behooves us to honor it as such. That said, there is no question that the transcendent state of consciousness represents an expansion of our mundane experience. It’s just a fact. Especially when it is discovered that the transcendent state encompasses all of the mundane states of consciousness because it is the very source of them.
Direction in Consciousness
This implies to me that there is at least an implicit “direction” within consciousness. When we expand our understanding to the transcendent state and perceive, even for a few moments, how our mundane, everyday states of consciousness are supported by, and depend upon, this transcendent state, there’s no turning back from this for any of us.
Experiencing transcendence means a literal, qualitative difference in our state of consciousness even if only a seed has been planted to blossom later. Something essential and intrinsic changes when we expand our conscious perception to that layer of our being.
So how does our everyday experience of things change as a consequence of our tasting the nectar of this transcendent state of consciousness? Put in other words, how does somebody who knows they are eternal, immortal consciousness, full of wisdom and bliss, how does such a person’s everyday point of view change?
Do we still brush our teeth, buy life insurance, and save our pennies for a better tomorrow?
Turns out, as usual, that the answer is yes and no. Yes, there are major differences in how we perceive the choices before us in our everyday lives, but I’m certainly going to continue brushing my teeth and spending wisely. Beliefs are still in full operation.
[Life insurance is another question though. I’ve never had any so it’s hard to compare. It’s not that I didn’t feel my life was worthy of being insured, but my dying is not going to be a liability for anyone.]
- – – – -
So how have things changed? The first thing is that there’s been a curious ‘leveling of the playing field’ in my everyday life. This is a bit subtle to try to explain quickly, particularly because of the danger that someone might think that I am devaluing everyday life in some way. I am not.
The idea is that there has been a balancing and harmonization of my basic willingness to more or less cheerfully participate in whatever happens to be going on in my life. For instance, for me there’s always been a big difference between bouncing out of bed early on those wonderful days when I can do anything I want, and me crawling out of bed late after stealing a few more minutes, on the days when I have to go to work.
Now that I am chanting every morning, I get up at 6 whether I’m going to work or have the day off. This means that for the first two hours of my day, from 6 to 8, I do the same exact thing every day. The change I’m noticing is HOW I get up when the alarm goes off at 5:45!
At Some Level, There’s No Difference!
There is virtually no difference in my mood upon arising now, whether I have to work that day or not. In a metaphorical way you could say that I have set up a transcendent platform in my day where for two hours it doesn’t really matter much what’s going to be happening for the rest of the day. In the same way inhabiting even in a small way the transcendent platform of consciousness we find a place within ourselves that is not swayed by the senses.
Let’s be clear, I’m not saying that I don’t do any bad things anymore in my life. I’m saying that this doesn’t mess me up the way it used to.
Revisiting my equanimity about whether or not I am at work or at home doing what I want. I don’t want you to think that work has ever been such a burden. And for that matter, I have even had issues lately with what I get up to at home alone, so this is not simple or cut and dried.
Transcendence: A New Platform for Expression, Engagement, Exploration
The point for me is that in either environment there is a significant portion of me that is fairly unimpeded in its pursuit of its interests, no matter which set of sense data is being processed by my mundane consciousness at that particular time.
By establishing this new platform for my identity and consciousness of myself, I have created, or better, become aware of, a playing field quite independent of the events in time and space that surround me. And the remarkable thing is that this transcendent state of consciousness is perfectly comfortable and natural for me.
Even though it is beyond, and untouched by, any sense experience we have ever had, this realm of consciousness is one where we find ourselves perfectly at home, once we adjust our focus and perception to recognize it.
When I say that the transcendent perspective ‘levels the playing field’ of mundane experience, I don’t mean that it takes anything away from this layer of experience. [except perhaps our potential to overwhelm ourselves, but that’s good thing!]
The joys and sorrows are still here in full force, but are informed by a perspective that is not moved by them. Or better is not overwhelmed by them. [we can choose to be moved, even transcendentally]
If all you have is the world of sense experience, then what happens in your sense world is ‘do or die’ so to speak. But when we become aware of a platform of our awareness and perception that is independent of sense data, untouched by time, and not bounded by space, everyday experiences are actually enriched even though they are bound to be leveled to a degree.
Never ‘Either’ ‘Or’ – Always ‘And’
As an eternal immortal consciousness full of wisdom and bliss, all sense experiences are something I have chosen and created for the value and meaning inherent in the experience.
Thus sense experiences graduate from being almost random streams of meaningless events impacting us day by day, and hour by hour, they graduate to being deliberately and intentionally chosen experiences for their inherent potential of value fulfillment. Quite a different perspective.
And it turns out that the transcendent state is not some kind of soft, billowy void or emptiness, no such thing. As we begin to inhabit the transcendent state we start to notice things, to make friends and initiate projects in this realm of our being.
Needless to say these transcendent encounters and experiments and observations can be conducted in virtually any sense environment since they are operating from a realm that is independent of the senses.
- – – – -
Easier to Direct Attention in the Mundane World
And here’s another thing. Because I have a foothold in this transcendent state of consciousness I am finding it easier to steer my attitude and intention in the mundane world. This I put down to not being buffeted by the sense experiences, however swirling and animated they might be, and thus being able to negotiate any necessary or desired maneuvers of attitude and attention unimpeded.
I know this sounds a tiny bit paradoxical but it boils down to not caring – I know that sounds awful – what I mean is lack of concern, caring is good. And understanding that ultimately, no matter what happens in any sense environment, this other transcendent place that we all live, knowingly or unknowingly, is not touched by any of that. [This gives us someplace to be that is not - ever - overthrown, by ANY sense input.]
I’m reminded here of something that one of the dead guys said about whether we are affected as Source by our experiences here in the physical. Turns out we can choose to be influenced.
This means that any sense experience has the potential to be chosen by ourselves as Source in the transcendental realm, to be an influence on ourSelves and to be an ongoing part of our own expansion and fulfillment. [note from inner self via feelings: 'Oh my god, that’s beautiful!']
In any event, I have noticed that even the little things that I want to get done, get done. Almost like they’re doing themselves… Cool!
Vision Board Revisited
I had a lovely experience with my Vision Board a couple of weeks ago. I was showing my new cleaning boy (actually a man in his early forties) around my apartment so he would know what he was getting into when he came to clean it.
As we passed my Vision Board, hanging in the hall outside of the bathroom, I noticed the picture of a big bag of money, with a big dollar sign on it. This struck me because the reason I was hiring this cleaning boy is that I had recently inherited a tidy sum, quite unexpectedly, and could suddenly afford all the things that I had been putting off.
In other words the big bag of money had appeared in my life! I glanced at the other things on the board, aware that I had not really looked at it for years. I noticed the picture of the sparkling-eyed man that I had put up to symbolize that I wanted to heal my vision.
About five years ago I developed a blurry darker area at the centre of my left eye. The thing is though, this has all been healed for about a year now. Taking vitamins and doing EFT seems to have done the trick with the eye thing.
So okay, that’s two for two. I had my attention now. I examined the other things on my board and noticed at least five things that had come true, or were about to come true. Like the goal to clean and de-clutter my apartment – the very reason I was showing the cleaning boy around! Spooky!
- – – – -
I’m here to tell you that the best way to get things done in your life is to awaken to the realization that they are already done, or at least well begun!
In order for us to start taking advantage of some of our potentials within consciousness, we need to be acquianted with a a handful of game-changing ideas. [Note that we do not have to believe these things... we only have to entertain them seriously to get full benefit.]
I am compiling a list of these ideas and this slideshow is the fruit of that research to the present..

W John C Hawkins is a Life Coach and Mentor in Consciousness who helps people who want to create a slightly different reality than the one they are enjoying [or not enjoying!] right now. This is usually a simple and (mostly) fun, natural, and organic process that has to be seen to be believed. [or rather it has to be Believed to be Seen!]

Declared a ‘Philosopher’ by YMCA Career Counselor – 1977
When I was trying to figure out my career, I took a program at the YMCA called Career Assessment. I still have the tape of my exit interview with the counselor after taking the two-day battery of tests. He said that I was ‘off the charts’ in all their categories and should probably be a philosopher and write books!
Trained Philosopher and Metaphysician – 1974
I earned a 4-year Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto and was on the Dean’s Honor Role in third year. These were transformative years for a boy from small-town Ontario suddenly part of university life in huge Toronto.
I went from being a big frog in a small pond, to a very modestly sized frog in a very, very large pond. I entered university studying science, chemistry, and mathematics wanting to be a doctor, and came out studying religion, poetry, and anthropology, wanting to understand and master my own human consciousness.
I graduated from U of T with a very clear understanding of my personal focus and intent, a conscious, almost visceral, understanding of the qualities of life I was drawn to, regardless of the consequences. [Beauty, Feeling, Wisdom, Truth, Culture, Understanding, Camaraderie, Authenticity, Transcendence…]
Metaphysical Research – Practice
Visual Artist – Information Diagrams – Photography – Digital Imagery
One constant thread in my life has been continual output of visuals of every kind; drawings, paintings, photographs, information diagrams, visual cosmologies of every kind. This lifelong creative output has filled many filing cabinets, and back-up disks. [My passion for creative activity of this kind may have been a way of processing awareness and experiences in consciousness that otherwise did not fit very comfortably into official reality.]
Hatha Yoga Practitioner
2-years or more daily practice of Hatha Yoga as proscribed by Swami Satchidananda – 1972-5
Tai Chi Practitioner
1 year formal practice of Tai Chi based on a summer course 1981… followed by livelong informal practice
Student of ECKANKAR – 1975 – 1995
For twenty years I was an active member of ECKANKAR where I learned a lot of the fundamental truths about how the world works from an esoteric perspective, as well as very practical skills like team-work, planning events, leading workshops, and researching and writing presentations. [I gave public presentations once a month for years at the now defunct Omega Centre in central Toronto]
After being a member for twenty years, and having been initiated into the first layer of their clerical order, I let go of this religion because I had grown beyond what it was offering me. [I was assigned by our provincial leader to investigate a guy on the internet who was debunking us, and ended up being persuaded by his arguments! Oops!]

Consciousness Research – Theory and Practice
Student of KRIS – Channeled by Serge J. Grandbois (KrisChronicles.com) – 2004 – present
KRIS, a channel source speaking through my friend Serge J. Grandbois, is possessed of a vastness of perspective only matched by the vastness of his compassion for our human experience.
Kris is a humbling personage to engage, not because he is so much ‘wider’ than we are, but because he never fails to inspire within us the understanding and knowingness that we are equals! Kris never comes down to our level. He insists that we engage him at His level, which is inherent within us, but often not recognized.
Kris has pumped out thousands of pages of material, all of which is available on the net, and continues to ‘up the ante’ by engaging bigger and more ambitions projects. [He is an illuminating delight to encounter, as is Serge, Mark and the whole Kris gang.]
I have attended upwards of 300 face-to-face sessions with Kris over the last five years [and written 1000 word summaries of about half of these (all available online) - I guess you could say I’m a fan!]
Kris Radio Co-Host
I co-hosted 135 one-hour Kris Radio shows on ThatChannel.com over the course of a two and a half years. [The audio of all these shows is online and may be the very best way for newcomers to access Kris’ materials.]
Life-changing Weekend Seminars and Skype Workshops ‘Change the World’, ‘Change Your Life’, ‘The Search for Self’, ‘The Lotus Mind’
Happy, grateful, life-changing attendance and participation in these and several other Skype workshops (usually 8-10 weeks), or weekend seminars formally presented by Kris over the years. [most of this material is available online for those interested]
KRIS Was Topic of My First Book
During 2007 I attended virtually every public Kris session, and posted online summaries of his presentations. These were compiled into an ebook that covered about 80 sessions. Each session was summarized in 800-1000 words and included a graphic illustration or photograph
Videos on YouTube – 2009
I have posted almost 45 videos on YouTube on various topics. These short (5-10 min.) videos are an excellent way for someone to get a feeling for my personality and style, especially if they are considering booking me for presentations or one-on-one sessions.
Writing / Illustration / Blogging
Daily Writing – 1995 – present
One book self-published (so far) and over 300 articles on New Age and Metaphysical topics published in various blogs and online communities… (mostly written in the last five years)
Sid’s Café
Science ‘fiction’ stories with a New Age twist – 2005 – 6
New World View – Online Community
I posted a lot of ideas and graphics in this wonderful online community devoted to YCYOR thinking… (2005-2009 – now defunct)
Kris Chronicles
Many posts and graphics in this online community following Serge J. Grandbois and Kris – 2004 – present
ProActive Art and Poetry – Therapeutic Practice – 2004
This is a process I devised to help identity obstacles symbolically and sympathetically and then envision preferred alternatives using creative processes like drawing and writing poetry that most people have very little sophistication in, and thusly are unable to disguise their real feelings and convictions, meaning that this process works so well it is almost magical!
LifeThreads™ – Therapeutic Assessment – 2006
Map the deeper meanings in your life. What if you could see a graph that showed how the most important values in your life were being fulfilled over time? So many personality test are multiple-choice questions that I always find that I can’t really answer clearly or with any conviction.
LifeThreads is a process of mapping whatever matters most to you in your life now – (this is something that you define), against a couple of dozen life changing events – that you also choose. The tables and graphs that result are often extremely revealing of the deeper structures and dynamics of the personality.
Belief Negotiation – Therapeutic Practice – 2009
I created an one-on-one process for working with conflicting beliefs called ‘belief negotiation’ that uses many of the principles and practices I have been studying. This is one of the many tools I use in all my coaching but you can book me specifically for belief negotiation – this powerful process is almost always a revelation and a delight!
Contact me and arrange a Skype appointment anytime soon. I am happy to coach anyone, anywhere, about anything… and especially about how to make a connection with what is at the centre of our consciousness…
My business plan is to offer my services as a Coach within Consciousness for FREE for the first year. After that we shall see.. [if we are a huge success, appropriate compensation will fall into place, if we are a huge pile of doggie doo-doo, nature will take it’s course!]
So contact me with your questions and concerns… Even though you are the sovereign creator of your life, we are not alone… We’re all in this together and the opportunities for growth and expansion of awareness are literally uncounted and innumerable… You can basically assume that one of them is operating behind whatever challenge you are facing in this very moment… Yeaah! [Let me demonstrate this to your satisfaction!]
(This post is in response to the new chanting regime that Kris, of Kris Chronicles fame, has laid out before us. A month into the daily chanting now and realizing that Kris is offering this practice as a way of actively engaging our innate capacities for reconnecting with Source, guided and supported by our connection with his transcendent energies.)
The first and main thing I have noticed is that I am able to focus in surprising new ways. I must have been a bit of a ‘jelly head’ before, when I compare how my focus and attention moves lately, I realize that this has all been rather spontaneous for a long time, and not much in my control. [The whole idea of our capacity to control and move our attention is not something that seems likely to have come up much for most people, although it has for me*]
But now, instead of being a bobble-headed doll googling around in whatever direction my world tilts, I now notice a crisp steadiness to my concentration and enjoy the power to direct and re-direct my attention. This must be an innate ability because rather than being bewildered by these new powers and perspectives, I find myself eagerly adopting them, and shamelessly exploiting any newly visible opportunities.
I also seem to be able to ‘telescope in [or out]’ on a subject much more easily. Or maybe it’s because I don’t have ‘attention deficit disorder’ to quite the same extent as before and I am able to stay focused on something for more than a nano-second, thus allowing my natural cognitive abilities to properly engage the subject.
Whatever the reasons, the amazingly rich and dynamic relationship between my outer experience, the ideas that dance around in my head, the inner dialog I witness amongst my various aspects about these experiences, and how this all relates to the ideas, all accompanied by a parade of meaningful feelings.
And this entire edifice supported from deeper layers of my being by my own conscious and provisional engagement of distinct idea atmospheres with their associated feeling tones.
What IS new though, is that I find myself on a platform larger than any idea atmosphere – which I can only guess is transcendence – from which vantage point I am able to identify a variety of idea atmospheres I could engage, each with their associated idea complexes and supported by different feeling tones.
And in any situation I am beginning to see options for choosing amongst these things. Aligning my choices, my concentration and attention with particular idea atmospheres that move my overall intentions forward, rather than reacting automatically to the issue of the moment. Very cool!
A related change is in my ability to carry through on an idea or decision or choice. Kris coincidentally (oh yeah) mentioned this in Sunday evening’s international session – “sankalp” is the Sanskrit word for ‘firm resolve’ and my resolve has definitely firmed up as a consequence of chanting.
By this I mean that a decision I made in the morning, before lunch, still has weight at 8 o’clock at night. Somehow I am able to peek my head up above my usual habits and behaviors, and notice perfectly viable options that are lined up with my earlier expressed resolve. [It’s as though I have become bigger than the games I am playing here and suddenly can see all the props and underpinnings {still fun, but quite different!}!]
I don’t always choose the new options, of course, but somehow even sitting watching TV with snacks, is more fun now because I am fully aware that I have consciously chosen this idea atmosphere, feeling tone, belief architecture and behaviors… [It’s all mine!]
Better than bobbling around on autopilot, as I can only assume has been my main ‘modus operandi’ for what… decades, lifetimes? Mercy!

“It is unfortunate that in such a a short amount of time some may even be expecting miracles to occur. There are yogis who have been chanting for years and do not get what some of you get from this. It truly does depend upon [by] whom, and how it is offered to you. That does make a big difference.”
—Kris: RBD, The Disciplined Mind, July 30, 2009 (thanks Eshcherbakova)
I offer my perspective, which will certainly engage yours in some way, making us both richer.
I also offer my influence, which is something else. [Influence is about as far as two sovereign beings can go in attempting to create in each other's realities.]
As we engage each other and share experiences you will experience my way of handling things (as I will yours – this all goes both ways) – surfing the endless flow of nows that comprise our realities here in the physical – you will note the assumptions I make, my stance in the now, and the options that consequently appear, all of this will offer deep structures within you, real-time demonstrations about how to BE, effortlessly and with great pleasure and fulfillment, well within the parameters of present understanding, and the blueprints of this dimension.
So much of real conscious creation is accepting how much we don’t create and wouldn’t want to create anyway. There’s a reason we don’t understand and can’t control important parts of our lives. We have to express our unknown bits somehow because that’s how reality creation works. We always strive to express ALL of ourselves, even though that ends up being impossible.
It is one of the glories of our being that we are constantly expanding, and this implies a certain kind of relationship with the unknown parts of ourselves – those that can appear only as potential within our present experience…
It is astonishing what changing our attitude about this one thing can do for our peace of mind… Accepting the idea that the unknown, the strange, the unfamiliar, the surprising, etc., are all utterly gorgeous, cherished, glorious aspects of ourselves that we simply haven’t yet found a way to ‘let in’… to accept and allow into our awareness and comprehension and consequently our everyday experience of life…
We must embrace the unknown we sense all around
It is great masses of undreamt-of aspects of ourselves
Waiting ever so patiently to be born!
